'The Elephant in the Darwinian Room'

by
Dr Mark Harwood

at the Christian Worldview Monthly Forum

Host -The Rev Hon Fred Nile MLC
Moderator -Pastor Peter Rahme

150 years after the publication of the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, what does the scientific evidence say about origins?  Data collection and research in many scientific disciplines has led to a vast amount of information about living organisms, past and present.  But what does it say?  Does it point to unguided random processes over vast periods of time or does it point to the initial action of an intelligent designer with subsequent variation within genetic limits?

When scientific data is interpreted, it is done so in the light of the worldview, or belief system, of the scientist.  Fundamentally different worldviews lead to fundamentally different interpretations of the same data.  This is nowhere more apparent than in the field of origins science where the conflict of belief in evolution with belief in creation fuels the debate.Dr Harwood will present the case for the opening chapters of Genesis as being the true historical account of origins.  The scientific data based on observable repeatable experiments is entirely consistent with the Biblical record.  The challenge is to be prepared to go where the evidence leads!

2009 marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin's Origin of Species and the 200th anniversary of his birth.  The world's media has gone crazy in its celebration. "It is a pivotal year in the creation/evolution debate.  Christians know that God is the Creator. 2009 is a pivotal opportunity for the church worldwide to challenge the false foundations of the theory of evolution … and time is short"warns CMI ! WE AGREE! That's why we are proactively working together with CMI & Con Dios Entertainment  to lead this debate by hosting two very important events.

i). 4th March 12- 2pm - at our new CDP Christian Worldview Monthly Forum in the NSW Parliament, Dr Mark Harwood, well known internationally in the commercial communications satellite field, will be the guest speaker. Mark has over 30 years experience as a scientist in the Australian telecommunications industry, specialising in satellite communications.  He will cover the philosophical implications/ramifications of Darwinism, the interpretation of science that influenced him and why so many scientists today aggressively promote this theory.

ii). 1st April - Premiere of “Darwin”.12- 2pm - This major new film produced by Creation Ministries International (CMI) and distributed by Con Dios Entertainment, will challenge evolution in a fresh way. Based on an original concept from Dr Emil Silvestru of CMI–Canada, the film revisits some of the places Darwin visited and ideas he formulated, during his historic 1830s voyage on HMS Beagle. Together with natural history footage from South America, period re-enactments and interviews with leading authorities from around the world, the documentary will illustrate how the evolutionary viewpoint is far from the tried and tested science fact that many believe it to be. It will investigate the man, the legend and the unfortunate world-changing legacy of Charles Darwin. The project, with an estimated budget of close to a million dollars, is among the biggest documentary film ventures ever undertaken by any faith-funded Christian organisation in the world.
